James Saffell, Member

Jim, an attorney specializing in civil and criminal litigation, family law matters, business and personal injury law, has a private practice in Suttons Bay, Michigan. He provides CRS with perspectives on legal matters and has been a CRS Board of Directors member since Spring, 2009.

Participating in mediation as an attorney for over 23 years, Jim is a court-approved mediator for civil and domestic cases in Michigan's 13th Circuit Court. Additionally, he volunteers his time as a facilitative mediator through CRS because he believes donating time in his area of specialty is "...an excellent way to help fellow community members and businesses in northern Michigan resolve problems in a constructive, participative manner."

In addition to Jim's role with CRS, he has been involved in numerous other volunteer activities including the Leelanau Children's Center Board of Directors, Chairman of the Leland Township Parks and Recreation Commission, and providing legal assistance for the Women's Resource Center. Donating substantial time each year to pro bono and reduced-fee work, Jim was awarded the 2008 Pro Bono Service Award recognizing his legal service to individuals and entities in the community.

Jim and his wife have four children and, among many interests, especially enjoy cycling the beautiful hills of Leelanau County.
